Press Release
June 2004
The Trustees for the Spirit of CJ Foundation (in memory of CJ Carrozzella of Wallingford, CT) are pleased to announce two major financial contributions to the Wallingford Little League and Xavier High School.
On Sunday June 27, 2004, at the Wallingford Little League’s end of baseball season ceremonies, Christopher Carrozzella and Elisa Ferraro (father and mother of CJ Carrozzella) presented to Larry Russo, president of the Wallingford Little League, a check from the Foundation in the amount $7,500.00.
In addition, the Foundation will present a check to Xavier High School of Middletown, for $3,500.00 which will be used in establishing a performing arts scholarship in loving memory of CJ Carrozzella whose name the foundation was formed.
On May 14, 2004, the Foundation held its first annual golf tournament at the Tradition Golf Club in Wallingford. The event was a huge financial success thanks to the generous support of 3 major tournament sponsors, 2 putting green sponsors, over 40 sign sponsors, and the 140 golfers who played on that sparkling day. The dinner held following the tournament brought in excess of 300 people, consisting not only the golfers but also family, friends, and classmates of CJ Carrozzella.
The Carrozzella and Ferraro families founded the Spirit of CJ Foundation at the end of 2003, following the death of their son, CJ Carrozzella, from injuries he received in a motor vehicle accident on March 3, 2003. The generous support the foundation received from all who participated in the golf tournament will allow the foundation to keep alive the memory of CJ’s lightness of spirit, kindness of heart and deepness of soul. Future beneficiaries will be other charitable organizations, kids, and families which in one way or another had an impact on CJ’s short life which included sports, performing arts, and dance-related activities. We truly appreciate your support of the Foundation as it progresses from its infancy to its lofty goals for the future. With these two major contributions, the foundation will return to the community something which CJ’s death prevented him from doing. The Spirit of CJ lives on forever through his foundation.
